FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A biologist with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says the number of snakehead fish is still on the rise in tributaries of the Potomac River. John Odenkirk says snakeheads turned in by fisherman have already surpassed the number found last year. Odenkirk says he thinks it will be difficult for humans to sharply reduce the snakehead population, and he believes it will take years for scientists to determine whether the invasive fish are a nuisance or a disaster. Odenkirk says he thinks it's unlikely snakeheads will make their way into the Rappahannock because the water has too much salinity. Besides Virginia and Maryland, the fish have been found in Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina.
