Part Flip-Flop, Part Thirst-Quencher

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WBOC) - The Reef sandal company has manufactured a new flip-flop that has a built-in flask in the sole.

It is called "The Dram" model, which is a term also used to describe measuring 1 ounce of liquid. That is the amount that fits into the sandal.

Bobby "Salty" Selt, who owns the Endless Summer Surf Shop in Ocean City, said the flip-flop is based on a model from last year, which has a bottle opener attached to the bottom of the shoe.

Selt said the flask is not necessarily intended for the transport of alcohol.

"When you're surfing, right after you get out of the water you're always thirsty. So if you have a Coke, Pepsi, or Gatorade you can put it in the flip-flop. I mean, what's more convenient than that?" Selt said.

But critics of the flip-flop believe otherwise, noting the word "flask" typically refers to a container used to hold liquor.
