(WUSA) -- Considering your options this Valentine's Day? Derek McGinty chatted with Nycci Nellis, publisher of thelistareyouonit.com about ways to go beyond the obvious this Valentine's Day.
To start, you may want to consider taking a walk up to a secret red door hidden in Old Towne, Alexandria. Ring the bell and gain entrance into a world of charm and simple hands-on luxury at PX, a modern speakeasy. PX offers only 31 seats and no standing room, but mixologist Todd Thrasher offers guests a chance to sip some of his hand made and mixed cocktails in a cozy room with modern flair.
One of the most romantic restaurants in the city is actually outside the city. It's called Restaurant 2941. There, Jonathan Krinn is really pulling out the stops with a few tasty aphrodisiacs like truffles and caviar!
And if your Valentine?s taste bud is in search of a simply decadent fix, Buzz Bakery in Alexandria hopes to satiate your sweet tooth with pasty chef Lisa Scruggs?s bakery sampler that includes Valentine's Day themed cupcakes paired with a champagne tasting.
And although love can?t be bought, several hotels around our area are adding a dose of opulence with to their Valentine's Day packages this year.
The Mandarin Oriental Washington, DC is located steps away from the southwest waterfront. It is adding suite specials and a chance to become acquainted with an ancient tradition with their offering of the karma sutra game along with several suite packages.
The new Kimpton owned hotel Palomar located in Washington, DC is offering special romantic packages such as the promise of a rose pedaled bath tub and champagne ready suite to liven your senses.
And last but surely not least, the Ritz Carlton is offering their presidential suite for a mere $175,000. That includes a limo that will take you over to the Kennedy Center to one of their theatres where you and yours will have dinner prepared by Chef Feury from Fahrenheit Restaurant. You?ll be surrounded by 1200 roses, your clothes will be hand selected by the folks at Neiman Marcus, and you will have rings that shine on your fingers from Cartier.
