MARYLAND (SurveyUSA) - In two fiercely fought contests at the top of the ballot in Maryland, Democrat Martin O'Malley is positioned to nose-out Republican incumbent Bob Ehrlich, for a Democrat take-away in the Maryland statehouse.
And, Democrat Ben Cardin appears to have the slightest edge over Republican Michael Steele in the race for the open U.S. Senate seat in Maryland, according to SurveyUSA's final tracking poll, conducted exclusively for WUSA-TV Washington DC and WMAR-TV Baltimore.
O'Malley has never trailed in SurveyUSA polling, but in our 11/3 release and again today, his lead is within the survey's margin of sampling error.
Today it's 50% O'Malley, 47% Ehrlich. For Paul Sarbanes's Senate seat, Cardin has never led in SurveyUSA polling, but has been exactly tied, or effectively tied, in 3 prior polls. Today, his 3-point, 49% to 46% advantage is still within the survey's margin of sampling error, and a Steele upset remains a possibility. In SurveyUSA's final poll, Steele gets 1 in 4 black votes.
Filtering: 1,000 Maryland adults were interviewed 11/3/06 through 11/5/06. Of them, 861 were registered to vote. Of them, 663 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
