GRUNDY, Va. (AP) - The candidates in Virginia's bitter and possibly pivotal Senate race scratched for potentially decisive votes today on opposite ends of the state - geographically and culturally.
In economically struggling coal country, Democratic challenger Jim Webb received roaring ovations from voters in Grundy by pledging to champion the working class and countering Republican incumbent George Allen's claims that Webb would reverse President Bush's tax cuts.
Allen, meanwhile, campaigned outside the Maryland stadium where the Dallas Cowboys played the Washington Redskins, the team Allen's father once coached. He compared his campaign's frantic final hours to a football game's closing seconds.
In his words... "There's no more perfect place to illustrate the need for a two-minute drill than a Redskins-Cowboys game."
The election is Tuesday, and polls show the race about even.
