The Baltimore City Fire Department has released the name of the firefighter who died after battling a blaze Tuesday morning.
40-year-old Allen Roberts was a 19-year veteran of the fire department and was assigned to Truck Company 26. He is survived by a wife and four children, ranging in age from one to 13.
Roberts died at Bayview Medical Center after he was injured in a collapse during a two-alarm row home fire in the Greektown neighborhood. The fire was reported about 2:30am in the 500 block of South Macon Street.
Two other firefighters suffered minor burns in the collapse and were also taken to Bayview.
Two occupants of the home were injured when they jumped from the second floor to escape the flames.
The three firefighters were trapped inside by the partial collapse of the second floor. Fire department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says a rapid intervention team pulled them out within minutes.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Roberts is the first city firefighter to die in the line of duty since 1995.
