They're seeing more and more young cancer patients - women in their 20's and 30's. And healthcare experts at the Ohio State University Medical Center say that a high tech mammogram is not the best way to save their lives.

Dr. Doug Knutson with the Ohio State University Medicatl Center says, the problem is that mammogram, which is the primary screening method for breast exams, is much less sensitive for lesions in women who are under the age of 40.

In women under 40, breast tissue is often too dense to get an accurate mammogram. So for them, Dr. Knutson says the answer isn't high-tech-- it's the old-fashioned hands-on exam--with a new twist. This new technique is much more thorough. It uses several steps to inspect a larger area--from the collar bone and underarm to the center of the chest and rib cage. The new exam takes longer, but Knutson says it's time well spent.
