It was one week ago that we reported homicide detectives were complaining about a lack of cooperation from witnesses. Now, police contend the crime scene was tampered with. In a show of extraordinary investigative tenacity, police still have control of the house on Swann Street where Robert Wone was stabbed to death 12 days ago. Last week, FBI crime scene specialists were called in to assist DC Police with the scene. And court documents now disclose why investigators are being so meticulous.
According to this sworn affidavit, police determined the crime scene had been tampered with before the first police units arrived on the scene; including the area where the victim's body was located had been cleaned.
That information is contained along with a search warrant for Joseph Price?s office and his computer. He's the owner of the house on Swann Street and general counsel for Equality Virginia, a gay lobbyist organization. He also is a member of the silk-stocking Washington law firm of Arent Fox. Soon after the Wone murder, DC police marched into the swank law offices, searched Joseph Price's office and seized his computer.
According to the documents, Price and Wone had exchanged e-mails prior to Wone deciding to spend the night at the house on Swann Street, rather than go home to the Oakton townhouse where he lived with his wife.
Joseph Price was one of three residents inside the row house at the time of the murder. All three have retained prominent Washington attorneys who have told 9NEWS NOW they and their clients don't wish to comment on the investigation, other than to assert their innocence.
Police sources say once the collection of evidence is complete, which should be in the next day or so, investigators intend to take the initial statements of each of the three men who were inside the house at the time of the murder and see how they compare to the forensics.
After that, it'll be time for some critical follow-up interviews. It's quite possible that at least one of those three is going to have some serious explaining to do.
