This story is proof that it's never too late to follow your dreams. Some local ladies are supermoms by day and superstars by night.
It's just your average slice of suburbia in the Johnson home. But beyond the house lies Katy Johnson's other life.
Johnson is the drummer in a rock band. Her band mates are also moms who like to make music.
It may sound like an odd hobby, but it's one that helps the busy women tune out the everyday worries of motherhood for a few hours.
The band is called "Hot Flash" and yes, exactly for the reason you're thinking. Patrice Moerman named the group and belts out lyrics she wrote during what she calls a genuine mid-life crisis.
Hot Flash got a big break playing this year's "Mamapalooza" concert at Jammin Java in McLean.
The event is moms' bands only - honoring a demographic that often sacrifices their own dreams during child-rearing years. Some in the former stroller set can really rock. And I guess it's no big surprise that band members? kids aren't exactly groupies.
But guess what... it's not about the kids this time. It's about moms making friends, moms making music and moms cranking the volume on dreams they won't let fade away.
