A Spotsylvania County teacher accused of having sex with two of her students appeared in court Friday. Bonnie Sue Davis, 35, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and having sex with a child.
It's a fight for her freedom, and one her attorney says she intends to win.
On Friday, a Spotsylvania county judge heard arguments over procedural issues about school records at Courtland high where she taught -- before being suspended after her arrest for allegedly taking advantage of two teenagers.
Davis has worked in the Spotsylvania school system for the past six years. Her two accusers were students in her special education class. Prosecutors allege that Davis had a sexual relationship with the 14- and 15-years olds inside her home. She's been charged with two counts of sodomy, six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and having sex with a child. Davis is just the latest in a string of high profile cases involving female teachers and their male students. Her attorney says despite the notoriety -- she shouldn't be lumped together with those sensational cases.
"The fact that allegations of other people is irrelevant. Bonnie Davis is innocent and no one should assume she did something because of some other teacher in some other place." Davis remains free on bond. Prosecutors say if convicted on all counts, she could face more than twenty years behind bars. Bonnie Sue Davis will appear again in court in July for a preliminary hearing.
