As the federal government decides where to cut and shift military resources, some defense workers are on the prowl for new jobs, according to an online recruiting site. Clearancejobs.com, a site for positions requiring security clearances, says that 199 Washington-area jobseekers registered between July 19th and August 18th. That's triple the number in the previous month. Likewise, registrations in the same period in Hampton Roads jumped from 49 to 178. Evan Lesser, the company's co-founder, says the decision to close Fort Monroe in Hampton and uncertainty over the fate of Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach are likely factors. Workers have noted in e-mails and a ClearanceJobs.com poll that the base-closings announcements prompted their job searches. The Web site has about 45,000 registered jobseekers and carries about 2,000 postings for positions that include information-technology jobs, engineers, intelligence analysts and linguists.
