In a way, Germaine Broussard is doing battle with a bit of batter.
Baking has always been the McLean resident's hobby. But it's not cheap. That's because she's baking as many as 2,000 cookies a week and sending them all to American troops overseas.
It started just over a year ago with a handful of soldiers but then it grew to some 500 sailors.
The project got so pricey, Germaine asked her boss at Smith Barney if the company could pay the postage. He agreed.
The cookies include everything from chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal and even patriotic sugar. It's all done from scratch with a hand mixer and one oven.
Germaine fills out each box with store bought goodies and hand written notes she solicits from anyone that's willing to write one.
Most of the money for the massive project comes out of Germaine's pocket, but the 'Cookie Lady' vows she'll keep shipping the sweet stuff until they all come home!
