Police say two people were killed and at least four others injured in what police say were related shooting sprees on both sides of the Maryland-Delaware state line.

It began Thursday morning in Laurel, Delaware, where state police say there were two shooting scenes.

Two people were shot at Carvel Gardens Apartments and one of them died. One person was wounded in a shooting at the Discountland Shopping Center.

There was a report of shots fired later in the town of Delmar. And that was followed by multiple shootings in a neighborhood just west of Salisbury. One person was killed and at least two people were wounded before a suspect was taken into custody.

Police in Maryland say the suspect was wearing body armor when he was taken into custody.

Delaware State Police say the shooting suspect stole a car to flee from the apartment complex in Laurel. The 2002 Black Ford Taurus belonged to a man who was visiting a friend and left the key on the seat. Police say the car links the shootings in Laurel, Delmar and Salisbury, Maryland.

Delaware State police say the alleged murder weapon, a handgun, has been recovered.

The shootings in Salisbury resulted in a precautionary lockdown Thursday morning at Wicomico County schools, which has since been lifted.

Delaware state police say the suspect was responsible for all the shootings but they aren't saying whether the suspect knew the victims. And they say they have a possible motive, but are not disclosing it.

A woman says one of the people killed in Thursday's shooting spree was her 24-year-old son. Iris Weston says her son Jamell was killed in the shooting at Carvel Gardens Apartments in Laurel, Delaware.

She says her son was shot in the face. And she says police told her the shooting suspect is a big time drug dealer. According to Weston, police told her that her son was in the wrong place when the shooting started. She says police told her the gunman was trying to fire into a girlfriend's apartment.

And Weston says her son's cousin, Marcus Cannon, was shot in the arm in the shooting.
