Brett is 9NEWS NOW's Sports Director and primary sports anchor. He joined the station in November of 2004.
Brett's unique writing style and witty approach have made him one of the most innovative sportscasters in the country. He brings those skills to the anchor desk on 9NEWS NOW at 5pm, 6pm & 11pm, while reporting on the full gamut of local sports issues from his unique vantage point as both a veteran of Washington as well as a seasoned national sportscaster.
In addition to his duties on the anchor desk, Brett hosts 9 Sports' Sunday night wrap-up show, "Sports Plus", and as of summer '07, Brett joined Joe Theismann and Mike Patrick on the broadcast team for Washington Redskins Pre-Season Football from 2005-2008.
Brett has been honored with 15 Emmy Awards on the regional and national levels. He garnered 3 Emmys at this year's ceremony, including his second consecutive win as the area's outstanding sports anchor and outstanding writer. Brett has also been honored with a national Edward R. Murrow award for excellence in sports journalism for reporting on such stories as the FBI's pursuit of rampant sports autograph fraud. He also reported on the trials of former Washington Redskin David Kopay, and his battle for equal rights and benefits as a gay NFL alumnus.
During his previous tenure in the nation's capital from 1997 to 2000, Brett was the Sports Director for WTTG-TV, DC's Fox affiliate, where he anchored the 10pm News and hosted the Washington Redskins pregame and postgame shows.
From 2000 to 2003, Brett was the Sports Director and primary sports anchor at WCBS-TV in New York. Brett covered a wide variety of sports events including multiple World Series, Super Bowls, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals and championship parades. He hosted the New York Yankees pre-game show and was the play-by-play voice for the New York Jets during their pre-season schedule. During that time Brett also served as a correspondent for CBS Sports, working as a sideline reporter for NCAA basketball and hosting the network's studio update desk known as "The Fidelity CBS SportsDesk".
Brett balances his duties at WUSA9 with a variety of play-by-play assignments on the national stage, including his role as lead announcer for the Tennis Channel's coverage of the Outback Champions Series tennis tour, featuring legends such as Pete Sampras and John McEnroe competing in events around the world. Brett's other play-by-play assignments have included PBR bull riding, pro cycling and the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
From 1994-1997 Haber was a fixture at ESPN as one of the hosts of "SportsCenter," that network's flagship news program. Brett was teamed with Craig Kilborn on the so-called "Feel Good Edition" of "SportsCenter" and became a regular in the living rooms of insomniac sports fans around America. In addition to his anchor duties, Brett was ESPN's chief tennis correspondent, and contributed to the Peabody-award winning issues program "Outside the Lines."
Brett is a board member of the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation for brain tumor patients and their families. He is also a consultant for Nike Tennis where he leads grassroots tennis programs for children around the country. Brett, his wife and two sons live in Bethesda, Maryland.
