
Police from two jurisdictions are still investigating a police chase that started in Montgomery County and ended in a crash in Northwest DC.
It all started around 10:45pm Thursday night on Route 29 in Silver Spring. A police officer on patrol noticed what he perceived to be a drunk driver. He called out to the driver to stop. He didn't and a chase started.
The driver tried to ram a police car. The officer took evasive action, but the driver then hit a citizen's car and kept going. Montgomery County Police pursued the driver who took Piney Branch Road and crossed the District line.
At 13th and Kennedy Streets in Northwest DC, the Montgomery County Police officer struck a car with two people in it who were not involved in the chase. They are now in critical condition at the hospital.
The driver being chased sped away.
The officer involved in the crash is not hurt but is said to be distraught and very upset about an accident that sent two people to the hospital.
DC's major accident team worked into the night recreating the accident. They are still investigating exactly what happened.
