He has survived an encounter with a bear and a rattlesnake and ridden his bicycle thousands of miles alone across country.
It was all to raise awareness about a learning disability he shares with millions of others. And although the Colorado man's trip ended Monday night in Washington DC, Mike Sandler tells 9 News Reporter Audrey Barnes his journey is far from over.
It has been a "trip of a lifetiem" for 33-year-old Mike Sandler.
He has "Attention Deficit Disorder" (A.D.D.) and decided to ride his bike from Portland, Oregon to Washington, DC to raise Awareness.
Sandler's solo trek across country has not been without some close calls.
A crash in a tunnel 130 miles in a deluge and there is that tornado dodging episode in Nebraska. Let's just say Lance Armstrong and the others in the Tour De France have it easy compared to what Sandler's been through.
And although his toes are raw and his legs may throb, Sandler says he would do it all again, because of what it has taught him about thriving with A.D.D..
And perhaps even more important, what it has taught him about life.
Sandler says he will spend the next few days lobbying lawmakers on Capitol Hill to raise awareness about A.D.D.
He will head back to Colorado on Friday, by airplane.
