WASHINGTON, DC (AP) Metro is planning to steer money earmarked for upgrades to more urgent projects.
General Manager John Catoe says those projects include fixes for computer systems, the replacement of worn track fasteners and repairs to station platforms.
The projects will cost $157 million over the next two years.
During a presentation to the Metro board's finance committee Thursday, Catoe recommended paying for the work with $109 million that had been set aside for upgrades to elevators, escalators and parking lots.
The other $48 million would be borrowed.
The total represents only a portion of the $489 million in unfunded bus and rail system repairs that Catoe has said are needed over six years.
