WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Members of the Georgetown student group GU Pride rallied on campus Thursday afternoon.
As part of National Coming Out Day they asked the university president to recommit to diversity and social justice. The students want the establishment of a full time staff member focused on the gay community and they want to extend education and training to students and staff.
Concern about the attitude toward gay students was heightened last month after an alleged hate crime involving a gay man. A 19 year old Georgetown student was charged with assault after he allegedly called the man homophobic names and then hit him.
GU Pride is the largest undergraduate LGBT student organization at Georgetown.
