Gas prices over $4 in some states

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Planning a vacation to Alaska, California or Hawaii? If so, you might want to factor in some extra gas money.

According to AAA Mid-Atlantic drivers can expect to pay "an average of over $4 for a gallon of regular gas for the first time in 2014."

If you are looking to save on gas money, you might want to think about the "Show Me State." That would be Missouri. AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the lowest regular gas prices can be found here at $3.39 a gallon.

As for drivers in the D.C. Metropolitan area, drivers are paying on average of $3.66 for a gallon of regular, "Which is equal to last week, and three cents less than last month," says AAA Mid-Atlantic.

"Following historical patterns and barring unexpected developments such as refinery issues, AAA expects prices to keep on dropping before creeping up again around July 4," says AAA Mid-Atlantic's John Townsend.
