7-year-old boy raises $54K for sick friend

MAPLE RIDGE, British Columbia – A 7-year-old Canadian boy has raised more than $54,000 to help his sick friend get an expensive surgery in the United States.

CBC News reports Quinn Callender started a lemonade stand, and his parents helped him out by promoting on social media. He hoped to raise $20,000 so that his friend, Brayden Grozdanich, could get a surgery that could allow him to walk without braces.

Brayden has cerebral palsy, which affects his right arm and leg. The surgery that could allow him to walk is only available in New Jersey.

Quinn created a YouCaring donation page called "My Buddy Brayden" and set up the stand outside a grocery store on Sunday. Brayden was on hand to help dish out the drinks.

Brayden will travel to the U.S. in August for his surgery.
