PARIS (AP) - Stephane Hessel, a concentration camp survivor and member of the French resistance whose 32-page book "Time for Outrage" became a best-seller and an inspiration for the left in Europe and the U.S., has died at 95.
The book came out in 2010 - when Hessel was 93 - as a rallying cry against the gap between rich and poor. Hessel said wanted to imbue France's youth with the same fervor as those who held out against the Nazis.
Its first run was 8,000 copies. It ultimately sold millions of copies and became a source of inspiration for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said Hessel "leaves us with the invaluable heritage of fighting for universal human values and his inalienable sense of liberty."
