WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Department Of Defense says a sailor from Pennsylvania died this past weekend in Afghanistan.

According to the DOD, 28-year-old Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, of Monroeville, Pa., died from combat-related injuries on Dec. 8 near Kabul, Afghanistan. 

Checque was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.
