SEATTLE (AP) - A woman skier who survived a deadly Washington state avalanche at a popular resort says an airbag-like safety device saved her life.

She was not seriously injured but three skiers were killed when the slide swept them about a quarter-mile down an out-of-bounds canyon at Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains.

King County Sheriff's Sgt. Katie Larson says the three men killed Sunday were all expert skiers. Stevens Pass is about 80 miles northeast of Seattle.

Larson says the men were among three groups of people skiing out-of-bounds at the Stevens Pass ski area. The other skiers managed to dig the three men out and performed CPR, to no avail.

All of the skiers were well-equipped and experienced.
