ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Shoppers in Virginia and West Virginia have helped the supermarket chain Kroger distribute more than $100,000 to the USO.
The funds were raised by Kroger's Mid-Atlantic region, which is based in Roanoke and operates 120 stores in six states, many in the Virginias.
Kroger says the USO giving is part of its 'Honoring Our Heroes" program to support the nation's soldiers and their families. All told, the Kroger program has raised nearly $8 million to support the USO.
The USO provides programs and entertainment to American military personnel and their families.
