WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Unless Congress acts in the next two weeks, what President Obama called a "really bad idea" is about to become reality.
Anthony Wallis, the Legislative Director for the Association of the United States Navy, talked to us on Wednesday morning about some big cuts coming to the Navy. The Navy is already operating under a reduced budget and sequestration will impose an additional $4 billion in cuts. We asked Wallis if these are unsafe levels of funding.
We also discussed the USS Harry Truman no longer deploying to the Persian Gulf and how that impacts readiness in the Middle East as well as how South American operations will be affected.
Wallis also told us about what he wanted to see happen in Congress.
