WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Metro officials say crews have repaired a third-rail after track problems led to a painful commute for Metrorail riders traveling from Virginia to DC on Friday morning.
Metrorail Blue Line service in the direction of Largo was suspended due to a track problem. That led to big delays on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines in both directions.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Metro officials sent out an alert saying service had been restored but that riders should allow additional time for travel. Blue Line trains were single tracking at that time.
Metro officials said the problem originated on a third rail between Arlington National Cemetery and Rosslyn. That problem was causing trains to become disabled in D.C. In a press release, Metro officials wrote: "At least four Blue Line trains have become mechanically disabled this morning, resulting in significant delays that also affect Orange and Silver line trains."
"Riders traveling inbound from Virginia should use Yellow Line trains and transfer at L'Enfant Plaza to get to their destination. Blue Line service from Largo to Franconia-Springfield continues to operate," advised Metro officials.
