Mayor Gray loses major endorsement

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray lost a major endorsement today--a direct result of businessman Jeff Thompson's plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

Thompson claimed in court on Monday that Gray not only knew about an illegal shadow campaign on his behalf; but the Mayor actually participated in the scheme.

WUSA9's Bruce Johnson has been following the story from the very beginning.

Johnson says we have not seen any new polls since the bombshell allegation on Monday; but we have talked to a lot of people. Most of them agree the allegation that the Mayor asked Jeff Thomson for big bucks could be a game changer in the race for Mayor.

Today we found Mayor Gray both keeping and losing key support.

First, a big loss from the influential Northwest Current newspaper which serves about a quarter of the City's households and businesses. Mayor Gray told WUSA9 in an interview that he is determined to stay in the race--and win.
