ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County police say 9 people suffered minor injuries in a crash involving a bus in Ellicott City on Wednesday morning. Police say three vehicles, including the bus, were involved in the crash.
According to their investigation, police say the bus was transporting students to Centennial Lane Elementary School. Police say it was traveling south on Centennial Lane at approximately 8:30 a.m. when it hit a van. The van then collided with a car, say police.
Police say the driver of the car was not injured but the driver and two adults in the van as well as the driver and five children on the bus suffered minor injuries. All of the injured people were taken to Howard County General Hospital, say police.
Police later said that two children treated at the hospital were released.
Fifty five children were on the bus when it is believed that the driver, 63-year-old Samuel Stokes Jr. of Baltimore, turned his head to address children and the bus crashed into a the van, say police. Police cited Stokes with failure to control speed to avoid a collision and negligent driving.
Police are still investigating the collision.
