SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say they arrested the suspect in a robbery of a Radio Shack after stopping a taxi. Police say she had money and property from the robbery as well as a lighter shaped like a handgun.
The robbery happened on May 16 shortly before 9 p.m. at a Radio Shack in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Police say they determined that the suspect entered through the front door, announced a robbery, and displayed what appeared to be a handgun. The suspect fled with money and property through the back door out to Fenton Street, according to police.
Police say the suspect was described as a female wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black ski mask. An officer responding to the robbery observed a taxi pick up someone on Fenton Street just south of Silver Spring Avenue and that the person matched the description of the robbery suspect, say police. The officer initiated a traffic stop of the taxi and found the suspect inside the vehicle.
According to police, 21-year-old Shawnese Taylor of Great Mills, Md. was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where she was charged with armed robbery. Officers say they found the money, property and lighter in Taylor's book bag.
