GREAT MILLS, Md. (WUSA) --The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations says a teen falsely testified about being shot during a drive-by.
After an investigation, police determined that the 15-year-old shot himself while holding a gun on Friday.
The teen originally told police that he and two other teens were walking in the West Westbury neighborhood when a small car drove up to them and fired shots at the trio.
Investigators say the teen said it was a drive-by shooting to cover-up the accidental discharge of the gun. He received non-life threatening injures.
Charges are pending, the State's Attorney's Office and Department of Juvenile Services are reviewing the case.
