ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WUSA) - A collision Tuesday afternoon left three teenagers seriously injured after their car struck a school bus in Ellicott City, Howard County Police report.
The teens, in a 2009 Honda CRV, were traveling eastbound on
U.S. 40 at approximately 2:35 p.m. when the vehicle made a left turn toward Pebble Beach Drive and struck a school bus traveling
westbound on U.S. 40.
The driver of the Honda and right rear passenger Patrick Moore, 16, of Ellicott City, were transported by MedEvac to the University of Maryland, Shock Trauma Center, with life-threatening injuries.
The right front passenger, Thomas Drago, 17, of Ellicott City, was transported by ambulance to Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the school bus, Ann Marie Mullinix, 52, of Sykesville, and bus aide Ruth Mathis, 53, of West Friendship, were not injured. The bus, which provides transportation for Howard County Public Schools, is a 2004 International bus owned by Kam Enterprises of Glenelg. No students were on the bus at the time of the collision.
Police report that the bus had a green traffic light and the right of way in the intersection. The juvenile driver of the Honda is not being identified at this time due to the possibility of charges.
Westbound U.S. 40 was closed from Pine Orchard Lane to Pebble Beach Drive for two hours for accident clean-up and investigation, which is ongoing.
