Luis Rivera Pleads Guilty To Raping Jogger On Sligo Creek Parkway In Takoma Park In 2009; Sentencing Set For April

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- A man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a female jogger on Sligo Creek Parkway in Takoma Park will be in court again in April.

On Jan. 27,  Luis Rivera pleaded guilty in Circuit Court of Montgomery County to first degree rape for sexually assaulting a woman who was jogging on November 19, 2009 between 5:00 and 5:15 p.m. The woman was jogging on the Sligo Creek Stream Valley Trail in Takoma Park when Rivera grabbed her and forced her into a wooded area. He then sexually assaulted her.

On March 1, 2010, Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald A. Ricucci said an arrest warrant had been obtained for Luis Rivera, who was being held at the Prince George's County Detention Center for a sexual assault that on November 13, 2009, also on Sligo Creek Parkway in Prince George's County.

Rivera was found of first degree rape, second degree rape, third degree sex offense, second degree assault and false imprisonment in the Circuit Court of Prince George's County. At his sentencing on July 15, 2011, he was sentenced to life in prison.

Rivera's sentencing in Montgomery County is scheduled for April 27 at 11 a.m. in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County.
