Man charged after trying to strangle victim

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was arrested and charged after he assaulted a 44-year-old victim and strangled him, police said.

The incident happened on March 3 around 9:30 a.m. at the 10800 block of Gambril Drive. The victim reported to Police that the suspect, 25-year-old Christopher John Murphy was a known acquaintance. They got into a verbal fight which escalated. Murphy then hit the victim on the head with a glass bottle and strangled him until he was no longer breathing, police said.

When Police arrived at the scene, Murphy resisted being arrested. He was eventually arrested and charged with 'malicious wounding, strangulation and obstruction, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
