Water main break in SE DC shuts off water to 40 homes

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A Southeast, D.C. neighborhood is without water where a large sinkhole opened up Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say a water main break at the location caused the sinkhole, and there are a total of 40 homes without water.

The sinkhole is expected to be repaired after the water main is repaired.

Stanton Road is closed between Elvans and Sheridan Street, Southeast.

Officials say they hope to have the repairs completed by sometime Wednesday night.
