Woman shot at Va. Fas Mart will survive

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- In mere seconds the gunman shattered the life of a 32-year-old woman and her family.

Detectives say the gunman walked in to the Fas Mart store on Brock Road in Western Spotsylvania County around 3 a.m. Saturday.

"We simply could not believe the senseless act this man took. The suspect walked up to the counter and pretended to be purchasing some items as soon as the clerk turned her head away from him he pulled out a weapon and for absolutely no reason he shot her in the head," Captain Jeff Pearce, Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said.

People who know the clerk say she is a mother of three. She was shot twice in the head. She was flown to a hospital in Richmond. Doctors believe she will survive.

By the afternoon, the store that saw such violence re-opened. Regular customers could not believe what happened to the clerk who had worked there for years.

"We come out here all the time. She is a real nice lady. Sweet, kind it's sad what's going on in our area. It's really traumatizing. I'm going to go home and pray for her and her family and wish her the best," Lakeasha Coley, a customer said.

Brandon Ferrante, a regular customer said, "She's been working a long time here makes me feel insecure coming around here."

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office says the man poses a threat to the community. He is armed and considered extremely dangerous.

"It is apparent he has no compunction about shooting people. The callousness that he showed in this brutal act, we haven't had anything of that nature happen in quite some time," Pearce said.

Fas Mart Chief Operating Officer, Chris Giacobone said, "This is heartbreaking. We are all deeply concerned for our employee and understand that she is now in stable condition and with family. We are also cooperating fully with police."
