Va. softball complex dedicated in honor of late student

The teenager died from bacterial meningitis.

Softball teams from all across Loudoun County came together Saturday morning to remember a fellow player who passed away suddenly last year.

Two softball fields in Ashburn's Trailside Park are now named the "Madison Small Softball Complex". The county's board of supervisors approved the measure during the spring before officially unveiling the honor Saturday.

Madison Small died last Spring after she came down with a form of bacterial meningitis. Hundreds of her fellow students at Broad Run High School kept her memory alive by wearing pink and using the hashtag #WePlayFor24 on Twitter.

Small was an avid softball player. Organizers held a charity softball tournament at her complex Saturday to raise money for a scholarship in her name.
