Va. police: 6 people injured in vehicle pursuit

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Virginia State Police said at total of six people were injured after an accident that happened Saturday afternoon along eastbound Interstate 66.

According to police, a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger was made. Police said the driver of the vehicle was wanted by police. According to authorities, the accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on eastbound I-66 before Glebe Road.

Authorities said, police were taking the driver into custody when the passenger took control of the vehicle and sped away from the scene.

Police said, they pursued the Charger and and the driver then lost control of the vehicle in the eastbound lanes of I-66.

According to authorities, the vehicle crashed into other vehicles as well. Police arrested the driver.

Police said the suspect driver and at least two other people were injured in the accident.

One eastbound lane of I-66 was reopened around 4:33 p.m. Saturday.

All lanes were reopened at 5:55 p.m. Saturday.

Police have one person in custody.

Arlington Fire said six people were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
