Va. man dead in pedestrian crash

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said a Va. man is dead after he was hit by a driver, who was driving under the influence Friday night.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. when Jeffrey A. Carter, 53, was trying to cross Cascades Parkway, just south of Middlefield Drive. The Sheriff's Office said, Carter was hit by a northbound 2010 Ford Explorer. The driver stayed on the scene of the accident, authorities said.

Carter was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver involved in the accident, 47-year-old Pierpaolo Verrone, of Sterling, Va. was driving under the influence of alcohol, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Verrone was charged with DUI and is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The accident is still being investigated.
