UMD lacrosse player charged with sex assault

BRISTOW, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police arrested a 19-year-old University of Maryland lacrosse player for sexually assaulting a 49-year-old woman after she fell asleep at a concert in Bristow, Va. Sunday night.

Police said a 49-year-old woman from Colonial Beach, Va. was sexually assaulted after falling asleep at Jiffy Lube Live located at 7800 Cellar Door Dr.

According to the victim, she was at the concert and fell asleep on the lawn area. When she woke up, an unknown man was beside her touching her, police said.

The 19-year-old walked away and was eventually detained for a different issue, police said. After an investigation was done, Benjamin Chisolm, 19, of Davidsonville, Md. was arrested.

Police said Chisolm was charged with sexual battery.

The University of Maryland released the following statement regarding the incident: "We are aware of the reported incident regarding one of our student-athletes. The University takes these matters very seriously and will cooperate with authorities during their investigation."

Chisolm's hearing is scheduled for July 17 at 9 a.m. at the Prince William County District Court.
