Police: Suspect shot clerk in head during robbery

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office needs your help identifying a suspect who they say shot a store clerk twice during an armed robbery in March.

Officials say they have received hundreds of tips related to the incident, which happened on March 8 shortly before 3 a.m. at the Fas Mart located on Brock Road and Plank Road.

According to officials, the suspect approached the counter and asked the clerk for a smokeless tobacco product. When the clerk turned her back, officials say the suspect shot her in the back of the head.

Officials say the suspect then grabbed the ephedrine locked cabinet and ran out the front door, where he then shot the fleeing employee again.

We're told the victim called 911 after being wounded.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25-40 years old, approximately 5'6" - 5'8" tall, 200-300 pounds, with a reddish/brown beard or goatee. He was wearing a black hoodie shirt, khaki pants and gloves. Officials say it's possible that the suspect has changed his appearance since the incident.
