SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 21-year-old man was killed in a two car collision Wednesday afternoon in Virginia.
Police say the accident occurred at 4:01 p.m., when a 1999 Ford Explorer was headed north on I-95 at the 119 mile marker when it suddenly ran off the right side of the road and rear-ended a box truck, which was parked in the shoulder.
Joseph B. Straub, Jr., of Fredericksburg, Va., died at the scene. Police say a dog that was riding in the Explorer was taken from the scene by animal control services.
Officials say the box truck had its hazard lights flashing and warning triangles set up behind it in the shoulder.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but officials say it was not weather related as road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.
