FAIRLINGTON, VA (WUSA9) - Neighbors are concerned after two separate raccoon attacks in a Fairlington neighborhood over the past few weeks.
Officials confirmed that on Sunday, a woman heard a loud noise outside of her home on South 28th Street. She went outside and took a look in her garbage bags. It was then that two raccoons popped out and mauled her.
Back in June, in the same community, a raccoon attacked a second woman on the porch of her home.
Both women were treated in the emergency room for significant injuries.
Officials said the problem is that the neighborhood is located in a wooded area and those who live there leave their trash bags out on the porch.
Officials encouraged neighbors to put their garbage in containers and to stay away from raccoons if they are spotted in the neighborhood.
