Driver charged with reckless driving in I-95 bus crash

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- A bus carrying 59 people overturned on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Va. on Monday morning at mile marker 136.

Four people on the bus suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and they were transported to local hospitals.

Officials say speed was a factor in the crash and the driver, Qilong Xiao, 50, of Flushing, N.Y., has been charged with reckless driving. He is being held on a $5,000 unsecured bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford County on the reckless driving charge.


"The crash site is at 137 mile marker in the southbound lane. Traffic is being detoured off I-95 at the 140 mile marker in Stafford County," police said in a news release.

The Princess Tours bus was traveling from New York to Doraville, Georgia when the driver lost control and the bus went off the left side of the road. All 58 passengers and the driver have been transported away from the crash scene.

The crash happened at around 4:05 a.m. Police say the bus overturned onto its side.

All southbound lanes have reopened.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
