REMINGTON, VA. (WUSA9) - Two are dead and three are injured from a three-vehicle crash in Fauquier County on June 12.
Virginia State Police Trooper C.R. Scally responded to the crash early Monday morning, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.
A 2000 Oldsmobile Bravado and 2011 Toyota Corolla were in the northbound lanes of Route 29 and stopped in traffic at the intersection of Freemans Ford Road in Remington, Va. The vehicle failed to stop in time as a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck approached the intersection. The F-250 struck the stopped Oldsmobile, and the impact of the crash spun the Oldsmobile into the median where the Oldsmobile caught fire. The F-250 then struck the Toyota.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, Juan Lopez Jimenez, 37, of Culpeper, Va., and passenger, Hortencia Lainez Lopez, 38, of Culpeper, Va., both died at the scene.
The driver of the F-250, a 34-year-old male of Gordonsville, Va., had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, while the driver of the Toyota, a 59-year-old man from Culpeper, was transported to Fauquier Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
A 46-year-old male passerby tried to rescue the Oldsmobile victims. The passerby was burned seriously in the process in his attempts to help and was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Charges are pending.
