1 dead after 2 cars crash in Loudoun County

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA. (WUSA9) - An investigation is underway after one person died in a crash involving two vehicles in Loudoun County, Virginia State police said. 

The crash happened around 4:42 a.m. on Purcellville Road when two vehicles behind a tractor-trailer pulled into the westbound lanes to pass the tractor-trailer, police stated. A third vehicle tried to pass the tractor-trailer, however was not able to pass. 

The vehicle hit a Dodge Charger as it was coming into the curve heading east in the westbound lane. 

Authorities said the man driving the vehicle going eastbound died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Charger was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
