Cab driver shot in Alexandria assault

A cab driver was shot and assaulted in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA. (WUSA9) - Police are investigating after a cab driver was shot during an assault in Alexandria early Thursday morning. 

The assault happened in the 4600 block of Duke Street around 2 a.m., according to Alexandria police. The cabstand is located by the Shoppes of Foxchase Shopping Center.

When crews got to the scene they found the cab driver with trauma to his upper body, including his chest.

Authorities said the cab driver was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. He is in surgery and is expected to survive. He is in critical but stable condition. 

Alexandria Police have charged a 16-year-old male from Lorton with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  

The investigation is ongoing.
