Va. rescue group: Nepal devastation heartbreaking

KATHMANDU, Nepal (WUSA9) -- The devastation in Nepal is still coming to light after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday. The death continues to rise. Officials now say more than 5,000 people have died as a result of the earthquake.

A local group out of Fairfax, Virginia Task Force 1, is on the ground now in Kathmandu. They shared photos Wednesday of group members conducting search and rescue through the area.

We spoke to them by phone. They say the devastation is heartbreaking but they are confident and hopeful they will find more survivors.

Chris Schaff, a member of the team, says everyone is in good spirits.
