Va. man arrested for sexual assault and burglary

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police arrested a Va. man on March 14 involved in a sexual assault that happened at a residence in Manassas, Va. on March 9.

Prince William County Police said, the incident happened in the 7500 block of Prince Cole Ct in Manassas. The victim, a 40-year-old woman reported that while she was sleeping a man got into her bed and sexually assaulted her. The woman first thought it was her husband but then realized it was a stranger, police said.

Police said the man entered the house through an unsecured door. The man fled the house before police arrived.

Detectives were able to get surveillance footage which showed a possible suspect walking in the area at the time of the incident. Police said after investigation and several canvasses in the neighborhood, they were able to identify the man as Jose Roberto Ruiz, 35, of Manassas.

According to authorities, detectives obtained warrants against Ruiz in connection to the incident. After a search, the man was found and arrested Ruiz on March 14 in the area of Keara Ct in Manassas.

Ruiz is being charged with rape and burglary with intent to defile. He is currently being held without bond.
