Md. men sentenced for murdering Howard student

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks announced Thursday three men were convicted of murdering a Howard University Student in October 2011.

Michael Jordan was sentenced to 95 years in prison for first degree felony murder. Lorenzo Carlton was sentenced to 70 years, suspend all but 35, for second degree murder and related charges and William Knight was sentenced to 33 years, suspend all but 23, for robbery and theft. Authorities said all of the charges were related to the 2011 murder of Howard University student and former Marine, Alonzo Guyton.

"Alonzo Guyton was a model citizen who served his country with honor, was working to earn his college degree and it is a tragedy that these three men conspired to take his life," Alsobrooks said. "We are pleased the judge gave them sentences that will keep them off the streets for a long time."

Authorities said Guyton was walking to a friends house in 2011 in Mt. Rainier when he was approached by Lorenzo Calrton, who was trying to rob him at gun point.

When Guyton and Carlton started to fight, Knight announced that Guyton was fighting back and Carlton needed help. Authorities said Jordan then got out of the car they were in with an SKS assault rifle and shot Guyton several times.

Both Jordan and Knight were convicted in January, however Carlton's sentence was the result of a plea to second degree murder, authorities said.
