Former Prince George's Co. executive dying from lung cancer

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- Some of you may not know the name Wayne Curry.

Previously serving as the top political post of executives in Prince George's County, Curry is credited with transforming the county, bringing in major development, reforming the police department, and convincing the Washington Redskins to relocate there.

Tonight, you're going to see a very different Wayne Curry. In his first interview, Curry confirms to our Bruce Johnson that he is dying from lung cancer and he wants those of you who are still smoking to stop.

This was Wayne Curry a couple decades ago: a super smart politician and deal maker, a proud native of Prince George's County. He would go on to become a lawyer, a businessman, the first African American county executive.

This is Wayne Currie today: most people would not recognize the county's biggest political name, he has terminal lung cancer.

For the time he has left, the 63-year-old wants his story to influence others.
